The Healing Garden of Invermere
Most long-term care residents spend all year inside their facility.
This is not the reality for the Columbia House residents.
Why a Garden?
No one wants to take up residence in long-term care or nursing home. It is seen as the last stop. It is, after all, institutional care. Columbia House Enhancement Society’s Healing Garden is meant to change the paradigm regarding long term care to one of greater warmth and compassion. We enjoy a long spring, summer and fall in the Columbia Valley – the residents should enjoy it too.
The garden, which is adjacent to Columbia House, is an easily accessed and desirable destination, a place to explore, stimulate the senses and relax. It is both functional and therapeutic, as well as stunningly beautiful.
The goal of the garden is to have all residents outside for one hour per day to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. The Healing Garden is for everybody-residents, families, staff and the community at large.
Interior Health supported our vision and plan to convert two acres of land to a Healing Garden. The Healing Garden has now become a beautiful reality thanks to our generous donors.
Help us maintain the Garden
When everything becomes very routine, residents can have little to look forward to, and hence, can withdraw from the joys of living a full life.
The Healing Garden helps overcome the banal routines, while bringing sunshine into their lives.
Help ensure the garden blooms
