Improving the lives of long-term care residents with the tranquility of nature

The creation of the Healing Garden in Invermere, BC has transformed the way we think about nursing homes. The garden is a beautiful oasis located right next to Invermere’s long-term care home Columbia House. Designed to provide a warm, compassionate space, especially during the sunny summer months, this garden invites everyone—residents, families, staff, and the community—to come and enjoy at least an hour a day in nature. Thanks to the generous support of Interior Health and our wonderful donors, this two-acre Healing Garden has blossomed into a vibrant, therapeutic space, perfect for relaxation and sensory enrichment.

It’s a place where hearts can heal and connections can flourish.

The Healing Garden supports mitigating the fears and worries
of many long-term care residents.

Who We Are

We are the Columbia House Enhancement Society (CHES); a society established in April 2017 that blossomed from the Family Council at Columbia House —a group required by provincial standards to help long-term care facilities meet accreditation.

CHES has a unique mission: to bring to life projects that enhance the daily experiences and overall quality of life for Columbia House residents. The team at Columbia House, alongside Interior Health, fully supports these initiatives, recognizing their deep impact on residents and their families.
