Phase 1 is Done, Phase 2 has Begun.

Volunteers are essential and critical to the full use and success of the COHO Healing Garden

Volunteers are integral to the full use of the Healing Garden.  Society at large never intends to isolate residents of multi-level care facilities from the community at large, but it happens when individuals find they no longer are able to manage on their own and are forced to abdicate their independence to the care of others. We, of the Columbia House Enhancement Society, firmly believe the Healing Garden will go a long way to mitigate that isolation. To maximize use of the Garden, we are establishing a dedicated group of volunteers, called COHO COMPANIONS, who will take residents outside into the Garden and engage them in a variety of ways, from simply visiting to gentle activities, accompanied and safely supervised by qualified companions, freeing Columbia House staff to carry out their nursing duties.  Come spring 2019, when the Healing Garden is fully completed, there will be much more for residents to enjoy.

It is important to recognize that when construction is fully completed, the COHO Healing Garden will be open to the whole community, a recreational park in the centre of town, handicap accessible, created for the use of all citizens young and old.

Columbia House Enhancement Society, (CHES), invites interested citizens to join CHES, become a member of our passionate group of individuals committed to bringing the residents of Columbia House back into the mainstream of life in this most wonderful valley.  We have the potential to directly influence the future of our aging population, by forging new pathways for senior care.

Join us and become a COHO COMPANION.

Healing Garden: Fundraising efforts are still up and running

Columbia House Enhancement Society is thrilled and proud to announce the completion of the first phase of COHO Healing Garden construction, which includes a large patio, retaining walls and landscaping.  We now are ready on beautiful winter days to take residents of Columbia House outside onto the patio to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and mountain views.

Even though the first stage is successfully accomplished, the society is working harder than ever to keep fundraising the money that will allow the second phase to become a reality. This stage will include the development of the Healing garden per se, the construction of all the amenities  (healing labyrinth, gazebo, garden) and the volunteer program development (Coho Companions).
